What You'll Do

As the Structural Department Manager, you'll serve as the lead structural engineer while managing the strategic, operational, and technical direction of the department. Your role will include:

  • Directing and allocating departmental resources to meet project demands
  • Mentoring and developing a team of engineers and designers
  • Overseeing all structural deliverables for multidiscipline industrial projects
  • Reviewing calculations, models, and drawings to ensure technical excellence
  • Leading structural design for steel, concrete, masonry, and foundations
  • Ensuring compliance with industry codes and internal quality standards
  • Supporting field activities including site visits, construction support, and bid review
  • Collaborating with internal teams, clients, contractors, and external partners
  • Promoting safety culture and best practices across projects

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Active PE license with ability to seal engineering documents
  • 10+ years of consulting experience or 15+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Proven experience in industrial structural design (chemical, manufacturing, process, etc.)
  • Prior leadership or management of structural teams
  • Strong knowledge of relevant structural codes (e.g., AISC, ACI)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, STAAD, STAAD Foundation, and Bluebeam
  • Ability to conduct field visits, including work at heights
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with Revit, Navisworks, Tekla Tedds, RAM Elements, Hilti PROFIS
  • Familiarity with laser scanning and point-cloud workflows
  • Limited in-plant stormwater/sewer design experience
  • Basic surveying skills

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Hybrid schedule (minimum 3 days in office weekly)
  • Located within commuting distance of the Akron, OH office
  • Occasional domestic travel
  • Ability to manage workloads and competing deadlines
